How to prevent complaints while working from home?
Unfortunately, we can no longer avoid it. Working from home has become the new standard. For some it is nice because it saves on travel time, others experience it as lonely, without the contact with their colleagues. No matter which place in the house you turn into your workplace, the most important thing is that you are comfortable and do not develop annoying back or neck complaints. We would like to help you on your way to prevent this through some practical tips!
Make sure you have a good workplace
It may sound a bit like an open door, but creating a good workplace is incredibly important. Of course, it is tempting to crawl on the sofa in your pyjamas in the morning with your laptop on your lap. But that position is not going to sustain your posture and back for long. So get dressed, have a good breakfast and take a seat at a table with a proper chair. We prefer to recommend using a chair with armrests. But you can also choose to use one of our ergonomic office chairs. These are very comfortable and can be fully adjusted to your desk, or perhaps in this case, table.
Make sure the monitor is at eye level
If you work with a laptop, it is probably too low on your table. If you spend several hours at a time looking at a monitor that is too low, your neck will inevitably be affected. You can solve this by placing a few books under the laptop or monitor. If you really want to be sure of the right posture, order an ergonomic desk. This can be fully adjusted to your body and therefore ensures that you work in an optimal ergonomic position.
Exercise
Make sure you get enough exercise. Keeping moving is incredibly important when working from home. In the office, you regularly walk to the coffee machine or a colleague for a chat. At home, the distances are probably a lot shorter and you will therefore get less exercise. Really try to take a short walk around the house after every hour of work, but preferably outside. You will see that you look at your work with fresh eyes again.
Watch your posture
Correct working posture is essential. Incorrect posture will inevitably lead to back, arm or neck complaints. Sit upright and keep your arms relaxed. Make sure your feet also rest relaxed on the floor and that your hips and knees are at a 90-degree angle. You can use our footrest for this. So you are sure that you are sitting correctly. Preferably, use a free keyboard. This provides more relaxation for the hands and shoulders. To improve your working posture, we have various ergonomic aids. For example, a wrist support pack or an ergonomic back support.
Exercises
Try to alternate working with exercises as much as possible. This will keep your muscles supple, and you will experience fewer neck and back complaints. Exercises are easy to perform on a chair, so you can repeat them often. The simplest exercise to do at home is the following: slowly move your head from one shoulder to the other, or move the shoulder blades towards each other. Turn your head in circles very slowly, from left to right and back again.
