Haglund's Deformity
What's Haglunds deformity?
Haglunds deformity is a piece of bone that protrudes from the back of the heel. This is internal, and therefore it doesn't actually stick out externally. The part that protrudes is caused by external pressure. Think of wearing tight shoes for a long time. This pressure will eventually cause pain to the heel. These complaints often occur with skaters, because they were tight skates for a long time.
Causes of Haglunds deformity.
Haglunds deformity often arises because too much pressure is put on the heel. Often due to uncomfortable shoes. Or shoes in general. These uncomfortable shoes often have a heel cup that's very hard and presses against the heel. This is bad for the condition of the ankle joint. The pressure causes thickening to arise and eventually cause the protruding piece of bone.
Among whom is it most common?
Haglunds deformity often occurs with people who have an arch that's too high. Also called a hollow foot (Pes Cavus). In addition, as mentioned earlier, it is most common among skaters. Young women can also suffer from Haglunds deformity because they wear tight-fitting heels or pumps.
Which complaints can arise from Haglunds deformity?
