Knee Bandage
What is a knee bandage?
A knee bandage is a type of sleeve or strap to support the knee. You can put these on, just like trousers, over your leg. You then place it on the knee joint. With some bandages, the bandage fits right away. With other bandages, you sometimes have to pull the band tighter and then secure it with a strap and Velcro. Another common word for knee brace is elastic knee bandage. This is because, the band often fits right away when you put it on. Because of the elasticity, the band is tight right away.
What does a knee bandage do?
A knee bandage restricts the knee from making certain movements. As a result, the knee recovers from symptoms faster than normal.
How does it differ from a knee brace?
A knee brace is often made of harder material. This means that the knee joint is even more restricted in making certain movements. This is necessary in cases of severe knee pain. A knee bandage, on the other hand, is made of softer material, and allows you to move around more than a brace. Therefore, use a bandage for less severe complaints.
When should you wear the bandage?
At Podobrace, we always recommend wearing the bandages at times when you actually experience the complaints. This can be during work or sports, for example. For optimum support, it is best to wear the bandage at these times. So the knee can recover on its own.
You can use a knee support for the following complaints:
- Swelling
- Sprain
- Bruises (sprains)
- Overuse
